What to Wear to Barre and Pilates?
When it comes to barre and Pilates, what you wear really matters. Not because you need to look a certain way, but because the right fit lets you move with ease, feel supported, and stay focused. Whether you're on the mat, at the barre, or using a reformer, comfort and function should lead the way.
Keep it Fitted (But Not Fussy)
Loose clothing can get in the way, especially during floor work. Choose fitted, breathable pieces that move with you—not against you.
● Tops: A fitted tank or performance tee works best. Go for something that won’t ride up when you’re stretching or inverted. Bonus points for sweat-wicking fabric.
● Bottoms: High-rise leggings or bike shorts are our go-to. They support your core and stay put through planks, pulses, and pliés.
Socks (or Not)
Most barre and Pilates classes are done barefoot or in grip socks.
● Grip socks: These help you feel grounded and prevent slipping on studio floors. The extra grip ensures you are holding the correct muscles and feeling the burn right where we want it.
● Barefoot: Always an option for mat work. Just be mindful of getting sweaty and slippy.
Layer Smart
If you’re coming from outdoors or doing an early morning class, layers are your best friend.
● Pre-class: Throw on a lightweight pullover or zip-up that is quick and easy to remove once you have warmed up.
Hair, Hydration + The Extras
● Hair up: Keep it off your face with a hair tie, clip, or sweatband.
● Hydration: Bring water, always.
● Jewelry: Best left off. It can catch on equipment or distract you during class.
Personal Style? Absolutely.
While function comes first, we’re big believers in wearing pieces that make you feel like you. Whether that means monochrome, bold prints, or a touch of balletcore—your outfit should support both your movement and your mood.
